Why “What If…?” Is A Must-See Series For All Marvel Fans

Marvel’s animated “What If…?” series premiered on Disney+ yesterday and ties in nicely with the next phase being explored in the MCU: the Marvel Multiverse. The animation by Stephan Franck is notable for its comic book-style appearance in a similar way to the film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and we are so here for it!
The series introduces Uatu “The Watcher”, a celestial being who observes all moments that have happened, are happening and will happen in all universes that exist in the Marvel Universe. The show follows his narration on alternate timelines beginning with Agent Peggy Carter becoming the First Avenger (Captain Carter) instead of Steve Rogers.
Captain Carter explores a world where a female British super soldier is created when Peggy takes Steve’s place in the original super soldier experiment. The episode highlights the struggles of being a powerful asset in the second World War but disregarded because she is a woman and how she overcame this. Further, we see how Captain Carter makes her way into our modern world differently to Steve’s 70 years in the ice and how that affects the Loki/Avengers storyline. While we may or may not see what happens next in this timeline, there is a whole wealth of possibilities that can be pondered on and fans have the opportunity to speculate their own theories.
There’s so much potential for Marvel to explore with “What If…?” and we’re incredibly excited to follow the episodes to see what new storylines and characters emerge. Though we wish the episodes were longer, it’s still a definite must-see for any Marvel fan.
The show also gives fans a new costume to inspire cosplays with the First Avenger super suit featuring a Union Jack and we are thrilled to see what people come up with.
