Harmony Day is usually celebrated on the 21st of March every year in schools and businesses in Australia and coincides with the United Nations Day for ending racial discrimination. This year in 2026, it has been decided to transform Harmony Day into Harmony Week with the intent that you should wear something orange on each day from the 16th of March to the 22nd of March. The purpose of Harmony Day/Week is a moment of recognition and celebration for the success of Australia's multicultural society as millions of Australians have vastly different cultural heritage with 49% of Australians either born overseas or having a parent that has, to recognise that Australian indigenous people has the world’s longest continuing culture. On this day schools celebrate by wearing orange or wearing cultural costumes of ethnic groups that live in Australia.
