Who Hurt Robert Pattinson?
Everyone is talking about Robert Pattinson’s (R-Pattz to his biggest fans) expectation-defying role in ‘The Batman’ (2022). It’s the character he was destined to play. I took a look at his iconic roles through the years and found that in each, his character is either brooding or tortured (or both). Let’s find out who in the films hurt him so badly to prepare him for his role of The Batman.
1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - Cedric Diggory
Robert Pattinson is convincing in his portrayal as Hogwarts hunk, Cedric Diggory. The beloved Hufflepuff entered the Triwizard tournament for eternal glory but got more than he bargained for.
One stand out of this role: Only 19 years of age at the time of the film and playing the role of a teenager.
Brooding or tortured?: Literally tortured.
Reason for torture: He is ‘the Spare’ and gets killed when Voldemort is being ressurected.
Who hurt R-Pattz? Peter Pettigrew on behalf of Voldemort.

2. Twilight - Edward Cullen
R-Pattz in his most famous role as Edward Cullen, playing a 100+ year old teenager.
One stand out of this role: The entire role stood out like a sore thumb. Edward was uptight, restrained and awkward.
Brooding or tortured?: Brooding with self-inflicted internal torture, sometimes physically tortured.
Reason for torture: He can constantly hear people’s thoughts, has repeated high school for 50+ years.
Who hurt R-Pattz? Edward himself, the self-inflicted tortured soul. Or perhaps the director.

3. Water for Elephants - Jacob
As a young man who runs away with the circus after tragic events, R-Pattz’s Jacob is charming and loveable and you can’t help but feel for the guy.
One stand out of this role: Pattinson’s portrayal of how unrequited love affects his character is done so convincingly, you can see the self-inflicted torture every time he looks at the ringmaster’s wife.
Brooding or tortured?: Brooding and sometimes physically tortured.
Reason for torture: He pines after a married woman to the point where the husband goes a bit psycho and hurts him…a few times.
Who hurt R-Pattz? Himself, and August and his cronies.

4. Tenet - Neil
The character Neil was mysterious and full of secrets right from the get-go but this didn’t stop him from being an awesome action hero badass.
One stand out of this role: The way Pattinson held himself in portrayal of the character, both solemn yet hard, showed how weighed-down with knowledge his character was. At the conclusion, his character’s sense of relief and his demeanour changes to noticeably more relaxed yet resigned and R-Pattz does well in this contrast of performance.
Brooding or tortured?: Brooding, sometimes physically tortured.
Reason for torture: The fate of the world rested on his shoulders and he got into a lot of action-packed fighting.
Who hurt R-Pattz? Once again, himself. Plus the bad guys trying to destroy the world.

5. The Batman - Bruce Wayne / The Batman
The latest all-round brooding and tortured R-Pattz character, though unexpected for the portrayal of the typical ‘Bruce Wayne’ character.
One stand out of this role: Pattinson's portrayal of Batman is, in my opinion, without fault. Bruce Wayne lost his parents and each of Pattinson’s predecessors in the role were given direction to portray a cocky, ‘Playboy’ billionaire. R-Pattz brings his brooding to the next level and shows the side of Bruce Wayne that is more realistically expected from the character. Without spoilers, the more the movie progresses and the plot unravels, his brooding is necessary and justified.
Brooding or tortured?: A brooding, tortured soul.
Reason for torture: Lost his parents at a young age, and lives in a dark city full of crime, mental illness, death and destruction and he sits at the centre of it all.
Who hurt R-Pattz? His parents, the bad guys, Gotham. Lastly, of course, himself.
As you can see, Pattinson’s characters exhibit a brooding, tortured soul vibe. We’re not sure why he keeps being type-cast in this way or why he does a pretty damn good job at it but we do hope he’s okay and that it really is all just acting.
