Throw a Dino-mite Event With These Jurassic World Dinosaur Party Ideas
Since the trailer dropped for Jurassic World 3 revealing the original Jurassic Park cast returning, we’ve been feeling the nostalgia here at CostumeBox and can’t wait to see it. Given it's almost 30 years since the first Jurassic Park movie wowed audiences young and old, we believe this is a party theme all ages can enjoy. We asked our Party Aunty what her top party ideas are so everyone will have a meteoric blast.
1. Encourage all your guests to dress up.
- Dinosaur costumes: Guests can be carnivores or herbivores, just choose from our fun range of Jurassic World costumes and dinosaur costumes we have available online. You can go full-blown inflatables or keep it smaller and simple, it’s up to you. Choose from a T-Rex Velociraptor, Triceratops and more.
- Scientists / Lab technician costumes: Grab a lab coat and clip board and you’re all set to be a cloning specialist in the dino lab.
- Park rangers / Archaeologists: Any safari suit or adventurer costume will come in handy here so you can look the part. Feel free to add your own flair with hats, bandana, scarves and more.
This ensures great photo opportunities and helps with some of the games we have in store later on. Keep reading!
2. Dinosaur Decorations.
- The Park: setup your garden or backyard with fenced off areas. This will be the dino park area where you can take awesome photos in costume. If you don’t have a yard, check out our dinosaur and Hawaiian Luau party supplies for a great range of decorations you can use to transform any room.
- The Lab: turn your kitchen into the space where the dinosaurs are made! Have food and drinks in beakers and test tubes, as well as themed food and drinks set up (more later). Our space decorations can help you achieve a futuristic lab look.
-
Destroyed Park: if you want to design your park after the dinosaurs escape, grab some fake blood and limbs from our Halloween section and scatter them around for effect.

3. Dinosaur Party Food.
Deviled Dino Eggs
Exactly like normal deviled eggs just with a cooler name. Here’s my favourite recipe from downshiftology:
You’ll need:
- 6 large eggs
- 3 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp dijon mustard
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- Salt and pepper
- Paprika for garnish.
Method:
1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Reduce the heat to low (or off) to ensure the water is no longer boiling or has bubbles and use a skimmer to place the eggs in the water. Then increase the heat back to high and set a timer for 14 minutes.
2. While the eggs are boiling, prepare an ice water bath and set aside. After 14 minutes, remove the eggs from the water and place in the ice water bath.
3. Once the eggs have cooled completely, peel them and slice in half lengthwise. Remove the yolk to a small bowl with a spoon and place the egg whites on a plate.
4. Mash the yolks with a fork and add the mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, salt and pepper. Stir everything together until it's smooth.
5. Use a spoon to add a portion of the deviled egg mixture back into the hole of each egg white. Sprinkle on paprika for garnish.

Jelly with Mosquito
One of the most iconic props from the films is the mosquito trapped in tree sap. Naturally, you’ll want to have this in some shape or form at your party so let’s make it edible.
You’ll need:
- Yellow or orange jelly mix
- Black fondant (or plastic flying insects if you trust your friends not to eat them by accident)
- Clear cups
- Fake syringes (optional)
Method:
1. Prepare the jelly mix as per the packet instructions. Separate the mix into two equal batches.
2. Pour one batch of the jelly mix into cups but only fill just below halfway and put into the fridge to set. Any leftover jelly can be added to the second batch and used later.
3. Meanwhile, take small pieces of the fondant and roll into shapes to make up the head, abdomen, legs and wings of the mosquito and stick them together. The size will depend on the size of your cups.
4. Place the fondant mosquito in the center and fill the remainder of the cup with leftover jelly mix. Don’t let the jelly set completely but check the jelly is firm enough to place the mosquitos on without them sinking to the bottom.
5. Put it back into the fridge and set the jelly completely.
Optional step: Once set, place a fake syringe into the jelly to make it look like it’s extracting the blood from the mosquito.

Oreo Crumble Dessert
This dessert will be inspired by an archaeological dig site as the finished product looks like the Earth’s strata layers. They’ll look good, are delicious and are easy to make. These are my favourite recipes:
Salt & Baker’s version (no-bake, 4 hours)
Life in the Lofthouse's version (baked, 2.5 hours)
You don’t have to make everything from scratch either. Get your hands on any dinosaur-shaped snacks from your local supermarket and serve them with ease.

4. Dinosaur Party Drinks.

Your guests will certainly need hydrating from all that running and escaping from dinosaurs.
- Watering hole (non-alcoholic): Fill a drink dispenser with water and label it ‘Watering Hole’. Add some mint, lemon and/or lime if you wish.
- Swamp juice (non-alcoholic): Fill a drink dispenser with any juice and label it ‘Swamp Juice’.
- Molten Lava sangria (alcohol-based): Choose your favourite sangria recipe and fill a drink dispenser or punch bowl.
- Raptor cocktails (alcohol-based): Think of this one like a vodka sunrise except using green and orange (or even blue if yours will be based off Blue from Jurassic World). Check out this recipe at Really, Are You Serious?. They also provide a kid-friendly version too.
For extra flair, glue dinosaur toys to the bottom of the dispensers or cups so it looks like you’re growing them in the lab. Or, freeze some mini dinosaur toys in ice cubes to use as frozen fossils.

5. Dinosaur Party Games/Activities.
- Watch the films. You can find the first five films on Binge to host a movie marathon, or play them in the background and guests can choose to sit and watch whenever they want.
-
Pin the tail variations: Put a dino twist on the classic pin the tail game with these fun variations to pick from.
- Pin the tail on the dinosaur
- Pin the arm on the T-Rex
- Pin the claw on the Raptor
- Stuck in the mud (or Freeze Tag): Yes, we played this as kids but this theme is the perfect one to bring it back. Choose the guest(s) with a carnivore dinosaur costume and have them be the ‘taggers’. Everyone else is prey and must avoid being tagged or help each other when they are. The dinosaurs win if they can tag everyone.
- Statues (or Red Light, Green Light): Must have someone dressed as a T-Rex to be the curator or game master. Play the game normally but everyone knows a T-Rex loses sight of it’s prey when the prey stops moving. Try not to get caught and eaten!
- Dinosaur Trivia: Download or create your own trivia questions for your guests. They can be trivia questions including dinosaur facts, film trivia or a combination.
- Archaeological dig: Using a sandpit, set up a ‘dig site’ with toy bones or dinosaurs throughout. The aim of the game is to dig out as many as possible and/or have a special prize for finding a specific type of dinosaur. If you don’t use it as a game, it’s also a great decoration idea to use too.
