Australians rejoice, your favourite annual event has come back around! This year, Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown falls on the 22nd of January 2022 and we certainly can’t wait to stream the tunes by the pool or at the beach. How about you? Make sure your votes are in and then get ready to experience the Hottest 100 Countdown like you have never before with our top tips for having the most gnarly day ever.

1. First thing’s first: Slip. Slop. Slap.

Remember, we live under a hot Australian sun so if it’s a sunny day, be sure to wear a hat and some sunscreen and keep hydrated. It’s a great idea to set up an area in the shade whether it’s under a verandah or shade cloth by the pool, or with a beach umbrella or tent if you’re at the beach.

2. Who’s that bogan?

Sure, you could wear normal clothes… but life’s more fun in costume! Head over to our range of Australian costumes and accessories and make sure everyone has a good laugh in funny animal costumes, aussie icon costumes, bogan costumes, mullet wigs and more.

6. Decorate ‘straya style.

What does this mean? Anything from hot tropical themes like Hawaiian Luau and fun pool party themes to Australian themes (green and gold or Aussie flag-style). We’ve got you covered with our huge range of partyware and catering items at CostumeBox so head on over and start shopping.

4. Fun under the sun.

With the countdown playing in the background, you can grab a bunch of water activities to keep cool and have fun at the same time. Think pool floats, sprinklers, pool volleyball and water slides for maximum fun.

5. Get your game on!

Not only are water activities all the rage, it’s a great time to play games of all sorts. Choose from our selection of games including card games, board games, Aussie-themed murder mysteries and even an adult range of games to have a wild time with your housemates and friends (beer pong is a favourite Aussie go-to).

A fun game to play is Hottest 100 Bingo.

  • Make sure you have markers or pens ready.
  • Have everyone print out their votes.
  • Each time a song is played in the countdown, cross it off your list.
  • The players that don’t cross everything off lose the game.
  • And you can choose to play it as a drinking game with your own rules. (Take a shot when you cross one off or losers have to do as many shots as votes they have left over, etc)

Another version is to add a point system with the aim to have the lowest score.

  • Each time a song is crossed off, write down the number it is in the countdown.
  • Tally up all the points.
  • For each song you don’t cross one off, you must add 100 points (so don’t choose obscure songs).

We hope you have an epic time listening to the Hottest 100 countdown this year whether you’re at home by the pool or hanging out with mates at the beach.
