Before I had even stepped through the turnstiles at Disneyland, I knew I was in for a spooktacular time. Giant pumpkins of the Fab 5 decorated the entry gates and vibrant yellow and orange Fall decorations adorned every corner of the Park, from Fantasyland through to Frontierland.

However, the warm glow of the pumpkin lanterns on Main Street aren’t the only reason to visit Disneyland during the Halloween season. Cue the Master of Scare-omonies, Jack Skellington and the Oogie Boogie Bash* – A Disneyland Halloween Party at Disney California Adventure. This family-friendly event includes after-hours park access to treat trails, photo opportunities, entertainment, attractions, frightfully fun décor and has LESS TRICKS, MORE TREATS!!

Whether you're a family or a group of friends, planning the perfect costume can elevate your Oogie Boogie Bash experience to a whole new level. In this blog post, I'll share some helpful tips and ideas to help you plan your dream costume for this unforgettable event.

Embrace the Disney Spirit

Disney is the home of magic, so consider dressing up as your favourite Disney character, whether it's a classic character like Mickey Mouse or more modern like Elsa from Frozen. Disney villains are also a popular choice, with characters like Maleficent or Jafar offering a wickedly fun twist to your costume.

Consider Group Costumes

If you're attending the Oogie Boogie Bash with family or friends, coordinating group costumes can be a fantastic idea. You can recreate a famous Disney ensemble, such as the entire cast of The Incredibles, Alice in Wonderland or Toy Story. Alternatively, you can choose a theme like Disney Princesses or Star Wars. Group costumes not only look fantastic in photos but also enhance the overall fun and camaraderie throughout the event.

Get Creative and Disney Bound

While classic Disney characters are always a hit, don't be afraid to get creative and Disney Bound. Disney Bounding is wearing everyday clothing to subtly resemble Disney characters without the full costumes. It involves using colour schemes, patterns, and accessories to evoke the essence of a character while still maintaining a stylish and contemporary look.

Comfy and Practical

While creativity is key, it's also essential to consider the practicality and comfort of your costume. Disneyland's Oogie Boogie Bash involves plenty of walking and riding attractions and while I love this TweedleDee costume, it’s not practical for riding the Incredicoaster In DCA. Make sure your costume allows you to move freely and is suitable for the weather conditions during your visit. Additionally, consider accessories and props that are lightweight and easy to carry.

Be Mindful of Disneyland's Costume Guidelines

Before finalising your costume, take a moment to review Disneyland's costume guidelines to ensure your outfit meets the park's safety and appropriateness standards. Avoid wearing masks that obstruct your vision, excessive layers that may cause overheating, or any costumes that may be deemed offensive or inappropriate for a family-friendly environment.
