I Destroyed a Limited Edition Star Wars R2D2 Coffee Press, Here’s Why
OMG, don’t be mad. It’s still usable...sort of. I made a plant pot because I’m a plant mum more than I am a coffee addict but I didn’t want to part ways with the cute coffee press.
In time for every geek’s favourite day - Star Wars Day - I wanted to celebrate May the 4th with a fun DIY project that you can do too. Of course, you’ve seen the films countless times like I have, but you can still play them in the background as you tinker away at this fun DIY R2D2 Plant Pot project.
Note: Some steps use power tools and may require assistance.
What You'll Need:
-R2D2 Coffee Press
(Or an R2D2 container, money box, candy bowl holder, etc as long as it’s hollow)
-Plant of your choice (succulents are best)
(I didn’t use one to begin with but ended up changing it later)
-Soil
-Spade/shovel
-Electric saw (depending on R2D2 lid)
-Drill plus hole saw (depending on R2D2 lid)
How to transform your R2D2:
Step 1:
Grab your adult for these first two steps. Take off the lid and using the electric saw - cut and remove the metal press piece from the lid. The press handle should easily slip out the top of the lid (you can discard this piece).
Step 2:
Take your drill with the hole saw and saw a circle into the lid where the press handle was sitting.
Step 3:
Remove any of the remaining loose metal pieces of the press from inside the body/jug.
Step 4:
Drill a small hole in the bottom for drainage.
Step 5:
Fill the empty R2D2 body with soil using your shovel or spade, leaving enough room to add your plant.
Step 6:
Place your plant into the soil and finish adding in soil around it.
Step 7:
Carefully put the R2D2 lid back on and fill in more soil if needed.
Don't forget to water it, place it anywhere you like and watch it grow!
