If you’re more of a foodie, try roasting your own pork hock, making your own potato dumplings or frying your own schnitzel. Just remember the three levels of the German food pyramid: carbohydrates, meat and beer. Don’t forget the beer.
The traditional style of beer served by the six breweries in Munich at Oktoberfest is called Märzen. Märzen is a low fermentation beer and can contain up to 6% alcohol and is stronger and darker – usually a distinctive reddish colour – than traditional beer. You’ll be able to find the right kind of beer at most good bottle shops, but there are no rules. Drink whatever beer you like, we won’t tell. Just make sure you serve it in one of our half litre beer steins, or at least cups in Bavarian blue.
Fun And Games

Or start a game of FlunkyBall - a popular drinking sport in Germany. Find a space outside and make two teams of three or more players standing on either side of the ‘pitch’ with a bottle in the middle and each player holding a full, closed beer. Players take turns throwing a ping pong ball at the bottle; if they hit it then their team can all crack open their beers and start drinking, but they must stop drinking as soon as the other team runs in and retrieves the ball.
