Meet the family

The city of Metroville has turned its back on superheroes (or supers), after many of the superheroes caused structural damage to the city. The government has had no choice but to create a 'Superhero Relocation Program' which forces all superheroes to permanently return to their secret identities and blend in with the rest of society. Now let’s fast forward 15 years to the present day where things are very different for the city of Metroville, no one remembers what happened all those years ago or they're choosing not to. Meet the Parr family, an average suburban family living a normal life but behind closed doors this is no ordinary family. This is the family of Robert Parr, or as we know him Mr Incredible, who had no choice but to hide away his super strength to become a family man and blend into society which unfortunately does entail working a boring job at possibly the worst insurance company, with an infuriating boss. He's battling a bulging belly and a disconnected family. You'll find him spending most of his time at home sitting in his office, reminiscing about the glory days all those 15 years ago. Now let's say hello to the family member who runs things around the home, Helen Parr or as the city used to know her - Elastigirl, the former super-stretchy superhero. Helen and Robert Parr have been married for 15 years now. She's hung up her Elastigirl suit and spends most of her days at home looking after the household and taking care of their 3 children, Violet, Dash and baby Jack-Jack. Helen may have left her superhero days behind her but she'll still occasionally use her abilities around the house for those challenging daily chores and is careful to do so within the walls and closed doors of their home. Helen wishes that one day, Robert will do the same as her and just be content to be an average loving family, like everyone else. There's someone else in the family who shares Robert’s love for everything that makes him ‘super’ and that's the middle child, Dash Parr. This cheeky little ten year old has the power of super speed and takes every advantage he gets to use his powers and cause mischief and pull pranks, especially on his teachers, without getting caught. He's always questioned his mother's rules of not using their superpowers outside of the home - why have superpowers if we're not supposed to use them? In many ways Violet Parr, the eldest of the kids, is the complete opposite to her younger brother. She's a typical shy, insecure teenager just battling her way through high school. Violet just like the rest of her family has superpowers, the ability to become invisible and to create force fields around herself. She desperately wants to be normal like everyone else, a normal girl, but in truth isn't. And last but not least the littlest member of the family is the adorable Jack-Jack. He's almost two years old and you could say is the quiet achiever of the family. His abilities haven't sprung through yet, so the family thinks, but we know better. He may be a baby but he's definitely got an act for throwing food at the dinner table and talking jibber jabber. Those powers are going to sprout through soon...

Friends and Foes

A superhero wouldn't be a superhero without their costumes, which is where Edna "E" Mode comes in. Robert and Helen's friend for many years and the costume designer for all the superheroes. She's brilliant and successful with her designs going as far as Milan and other international fashion capitals. No matter how far she travels, her true passion is designing suits for all the supers and she longs for the return of the superheroes so she can infuse her new technology designs. Luckily Robert visits her one day to patch up his old suit and Edna decides to create a new suit design for the whole Parr family. Edna designs the famous red suits that The Incredibles wear now, with all the latest tech built within the suits. Robert may have lost touch with the rest of the supers but he'll never give up his best friend, Lucius Best or as he used to be known as Frozone. Lucius has the ability to create ice from the moisture in the air, which he can travel on with his special boots. You could say he's the 'coolest' superhero out there. Although he too is trying to conform to society, Robert and himself still occasionally will go out during the night and do a little 'vigil-anting', just like the good old days. He still tries his best to help Robert to adjust to to everyday life and leave the past in the past. Let's turn the tables and check out the other spectrum of characters and meet Syndrome. He's the villain in the first film and he's got one thing on his mind, to remove all supers from the city so he can become the only superhero out there. He wasn't born with powers but has created technology and weapons to make it seem as though he possesses them. Out of all the supers, he envied Mr Incredible the most; he had strength, popularity and fame. Syndrome is a highly intelligent man with too much cunning for his own good, he spends most of his days on a secret island where he carries out his diabolical plans to take over the city, using a killer robot which becomes intelligent of its surrounds and tries to destroy Syndrome and The Incredibles. Although he only appeared 3 months later and at the end of the film but let's meet The Underminer, who will make his second appearance in the second film. He's a true antagonist for a superhero villain and his main motivation is to show his existence to the city of Metroville. He too designs robots and unfortunately did lose both his hands in an explosion in his lab, where he was building an army of robots set to destroy the city. That's not going to stop him from doing what any villain would do, he's a powerful criminal who robs banks and destroying the peace and joy in the city. The Underminer ironically has the appearance of a mole, with his short and round body, bucked front teeth and small eyes. As the first film ends you'll catch him saying a short introductory speech: 'Behold the Underminer! I'm always beneath you, but nothing is beneath me!'
