5 Gory Halloween Food Ideas To Serve At Your Halloween Party

Wondering what food to serve at a Halloween party? One of the main attractions of your party is the food and your party deserves the spookiest and goriest foods you can create!

It’s all about finger food (no pun intended) because finger food can be eaten on the go and there are so many different ways you can express your inner creepiness. So let’s take a look at the best Halloween food ideas- from appetizers and cupcakes to biscuits, desserts and drinks, as well as a few creepy ideas for Halloween party tableware.

Appetisers

Spider hotdogs: These creepy spider hotdogs are popular with kids and adults and are so easy to make. Just slice some hot dog sausages lengthwise in quarters, wrap 4 of these quarters together with pastry (wrap them around the middle, so they look like a bunch of twigs tied with string), make eyes with olives and pimentos and bake until cooked. These Halloween treats will scare everyone because they really do look like scary spiders!

Spooky cheese and crackers: These are so easy to make, it’s scary! All you need is to buy some small cookie cutters in the shape of ghosts, bats, pumpkins or witches’ hats (easily found online), cut out the cheese slices and pop them onto your favourite savoury biscuits!

Severed fingers: This recipe is fast and easy and really gross! Grab your hot dog sausages and cut out a fingernail in one end of the sausage, then make three slices width-wise to look like knuckles, boil them and when cooked, you can either serve them in hot dog buns with tomato sauce or stand them in a jar of tomato sauce. This Halloween party food really does look like severed fingers, so expect some alarming shrieks from your guests!

Cupcakes

Scary bat cupcakes: Kids absolutely love these scary bat cupcakes, so make your cupcakes as normal, icing them in different colours. So far so good! Now comes the scary bat part, because you need Oreos, Reese’s Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Miniatures (from Woolies) and candy eyeballs! Pierce the Reese’s Miniatures with a toothpick along one side, open the Oreos and scrape away the cream, cut each half in half again, and use icing to stick them to the top of the Reese Miniatures (like bat wings), and then position the candy eyeballs. These Halloween treats won’t last long!

Mummy cupcakes: These wrapped mummy cupcakes are a hoot and get snapped up very quickly! You need to bake your cupcakes as normal and prepare two batches of vanilla buttercream, one green and the other black (food colourings are easy to find). Using a piping bag with a ribbon tip, pipe the buttercream back and forth over the top of the cupcakes so it looks like a mummy’s wrappings. Add the eyeballs and you have some super scary mummy wrapped cupcakes! Now you know what food to serve at a Halloween party!

Ghostly cupcakes: Bake your cupcakes as normal, ice with chocolate buttercream frosting and cover with chocolate sprinkles. Now you need to make the chocolate ghosts! So melt a block of white chocolate, drop spoonful’s onto your baking sheet and spread the chocolate using the back of a spoon to create a ghost shape. Once cooked, add two chocolate chips for eyes and poke them into the cupcakes. Life doesn’t get any creepier than this!

Desserts

Brain Jelly: Buy a brain jelly mould online (easy to find), pour your strawberry jelly into the mould and let it set. Once it’s tipped out onto your serving plate, and covered in drizzles of strawberry sauce, it’s going to look exactly like a plate of dripping brains.

Bloody Red Velvet Cake: This is so easy and so dramatic as a centrepiece on your table. Just make or buy a red velvet cake, make sure it’s covered in buttercream frosting, drizzle red icing over the top of the cake and then stand a really big knife in the centre of the cake. It will look like a blood strewn cake is sitting in the middle of the table!

Bloody eyeballs: Make as many panna cottas as you need for all your guests (these will be the eyeballs), slice a kiwi fruit and layer it around in a circle in the middle of the panna cottas and add a chocolate-covered coffee bean in the middle. To complete this devilish dish, make some syrupy blood from strawberries and sugar heated in a saucepan, mash the strawberries in the syrup and drain. Then pour this bloody syrup around the panna cottas and they look like big eyeballs floating in a bath of blood! The most ghoulish dish of Halloween party food ever!

Drinks

Bloody Mary Syringes: Buy dozens of wide nozzle syringes from your local pharmacy, fill them with Bloody Mary and stack them on a tray of ice cubes – they will be gone in a flash!

Ghoulish Gin Cocktails: Mix gin with lemon juice, grenadine and tonic water and pour into a large glass filled with ice. The trick to make it scary ghoulish is to pop a glow stick into each glass, which makes the clear drink glow in the dark!

Witches Brew: You need pomegranate juice, pineapple juice, rum and ginger ale. Pour everything over a big metal cauldron of ice, placed on top of a metal dish of dry ice spiked with a few drops of water to make it smoke - and poof! Your very own spooky witch’s brew!

Halloween Table Decor

Dark and brooding: Turn the lights down low and lay your table with black candles, creepy foliage dotted with spiders, black napkins and tablecloth, black place names in the shape of a cat, and finish with white crockery. This Halloween party tableware is a play on a witches coven, but looks elegant and stylish!

Friday the 13th: Create an outdoor setting around a campsite with fire pit, so that it’s really rustic with large spider webs between the trees, and spiders on the table. The centrepiece is a bloodied machete and everyone gets to wear a Jason Hockey face mask!
