With Book Week 2021 fast approaching, we want to help you take the stress out of finding a costume for your child. When is Book Week you ask? Book Week 2021 runs from the 21st -27th August, with the theme of the year being ‘Old words, new worlds, other worlds’. If this theme has left you stuck for Book Week costume ideas, fear not as we have seen our fair share of Book Weeks here at CostumeBox and can certainly help you choose. Keep reading as we break down this year's theme and our top easy Book Week costume ideas for Book Week 2021.

1. Old Worlds

Old worlds is quite possibly one of the most exciting avenues you could go down with the Book Week 2021 theme. ‘Old world’ can mean anything from prehistoric to colonial eras and everything in between, so there is plenty of room to get creative with your Book Week costume ideas. Why not take a trip back in time with a Medieval inspired costume? Think knights in shining armour, a damsel in distress, vikings or even a fire breathing dragon! An ancient Egyptian god or great Greek and Roman ruler would also make a great Book Week costume.

Not old world enough? You could turn back in time EVEN further and travel to the prehistoric era in a caveman or Flintstones inspired costume, or if your little one loves dinosaurs, our inflatable Dinosaur costumes are always a hit and would make an awesome Book Week costume.

2. New Worlds

Perhaps the old world isn’t your child’s biggest interest, rather they are excited by stories and books about aliens and the mysterious unknown of the future, then a costume inspired by the concept of ‘New Worlds’ is the way to go. To achieve a Book Week costume inspired by the new world, our advice would be - think shiny, edgy and metallic costumes. Think astronauts exploring the new and unknown world of outer space. Think of aliens in their shiny spacecraft or hovercrafts buzzing around in a futuristic new world. Alternatively, you could dress like you’ve just discovered a ‘new world’ not previously known to you in an early European settler or Australian convict costume. The possibilities are endless.

3. Other Worlds

If your child would rather get lost in books about imagination and wonder, then an ‘Other Worlds’ inspired costume would be a great Book Week costume idea. The ‘other world’ can refer to the world of imagination, dreams and the supernatural, a world we often see portrayed in films and fairytales, and this is a theme sure to excite any child. An Alice in Wonderland inspired costume would be a great Book Week character idea for this theme, as Alice is known for tumbling down the rabbit hole and discovering the other world of ‘Wonderland’. Perhaps your child doesn’t like the idea of growing up, so why not escape to the other world of ‘Neverland’ in a Peter Pan, Tinkerbell or Wendy Book Week costume? Or why not draw inspiration from one of the most well known other worlds of all time - ‘Oz’, with a Dorothy inspired costume that’ll be sure to make you feel like you’re not in Kansas anymore.

That wraps up our list of neverfail costume ideas for Book Week 2021, all of which can be found right here at CostumeBox in our Book Week collection. From Vikings to Mad Hatter’s and everything in between, we can’t wait to see what your child wears for Book Week this August.
